Visitation will be on Friday, March 30, 2012 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Mahn Family Funeral Home- Larson Chapel and on Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Harold Ore Oelkers was born on January 15, 1932, in Pine Island Township, Goodhue County, MN to Ore and Johanna (Buck) Oelkers. He grew up in Mazeppa and graduated from Mazeppa High School in 1950. Harold worked at his father’s grocery store while he was in high school and owned his own milk route prior to entering the U.S. Army on August 13, 1952. While home on leave he married, Clarice Lemmerman on December 26, 1952 in Mazeppa. After his honorable discharge on May 29, 1954, they made their home in Mazeppa and he worked for Quarve-Anderson for several years. Harold bought his milk route back and later worked as a grocery clerk. From 1970-1980 he owned and operated Harold’s Rubbish Removal. Harold was one of the original collectors of aluminum cans in the Mazeppa area. Harold and Clarice moved to Pine Island in 1993 and into the Kenyon Sunset Home in 2010. Harold was a retired lifelong member of the Mazeppa Volunteer Fire Department and also a member of American Legion Post #588 in Mazeppa and VFW Post #1802 in Zumbro Falls. Harold enjoyed collecting coins and cast iron toys, watching “Days of Our Lives”, swimming, traveling and listening to old time music.
